#03 . Hear from the teacher

We were fortunate to hear from several teachers who have experienced and implemented the program. The initiative has already shown meaningful results — the school recently placed second in the national exam and received a government prize of about SGD 2,000 (IDR 20,000,000). Teachers credit the literacy program and the children’s growing enthusiasm for reading as major factors behind this achievement.

We’re truly grateful to see how this program has helped improve literacy rates, and we’re excited to continue expanding our efforts — village by village.

Reading Revolution

#01 . Book Categorization

Our Literacy Program aims to improve English reading skills among the children of Nambo Udik. We send donated books to local schools and track the progress of each child as they advance from level 1 to level 5 books. Every three months, the children receive more challenging material to encourage continuous growth. This program not only helps children develop strong language skills but also fosters a love of reading.

Level 1 (Beginner)
At this level, the focus is on introducing children to basic English. The books are designed with simple vocabulary, short sentences, and plenty of pictures to help the children associate words with visuals. The goal is to familiarize the children with the basics of reading in English, such as understanding simple words and forming basic sentences.

Level 2-3 (Intermediate)
Books at this level feature more complex vocabulary and longer sentences. While there are still some pictures to support understanding, the emphasis shifts to improving reading comprehension and fluency. Children begin reading simple stories independently, using context clues and their growing vocabulary to understand more about the text.

Level 4-5 (Advanced)
Level 3 books are for children who have developed confidence in their reading skills. The vocabulary becomes more sophisticated, and the sentences are longer and more detailed. The books no longer rely on pictures as much, encouraging children to read more critically and independently. At this level, children are expected to comprehend more advanced storylines and analyze the text’s meaning, themes, and characters.

#02 . Literacy Program

Each month, we visit the school to teach new vocabulary and deliver fresh books for the children. Every three months, we monitor and evaluate their progress, then provide more challenging reading materials to support continuous improvement. This gradual approach keeps students motivated while strengthening their vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence in English.

Overall, the Nambo Udik Literacy Program empowers students through education, nurturing a love of learning and opening doors to greater opportunities for their future.
